Rihanna loves big, bold looks. Balmain makes big, bold looks. So we’re amazed that it took so long for this match made in heaven to actually happen. The singer is the new face of the Parisian fashion line’s spring/summer 2014 campaign, which she and Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing both announced on Instagram Tuesday.
So, is Rihanna excited? Well, judging by the caption on her first photo (“Guess who’s the new BALMAIN Woman???!!!!!!! #BALMAIN #MommaImadeIt #CaribbeanGalRunTing”) we’d say so. She also thanked Rousteing for casting her in the ads. But according to Rousteing, the feeling was mutual.
“WHEN YOUR INSPIRATION MEETS YOUR CREATION #feelscomplete #loveu @badgalriri #dreamsdocometrue #iconic #onlygirlintheworld” he captioned the shot of her in a pink houndstooth suit, above. And for the sultry black-and-white look below, he wrote “DREAMS DO COME TRUE.”
The images were shot by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in N.Y.C., and will appear in fashion magazines in January. Says Rousteing in a statement, “When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete. Not compromising, fresh, modern, the icon of my generation, Rihanna embodies my vision of Balmain in this new campaign. In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world.” And he shared this sweet shot below to illustrate how close they’ve become.
