In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we noticed plenty of holiday party-ready dresses (both sheer and sparkly), but noticed one shoe look that doesn’t seem to be gaining legs (so to speak).
Up: Sheer sleeves. It’s no secret sheer is having a major moment right now. In fact, it’s even migrated from dress cutouts to winter-friendly tights — and now entire sleeves. Jennifer Hudson sported the trend in an LBD at the N.Y.C. premiere of Black Nativity, and Khloé Kardashian Odom followed suit — this time with more volume! — at a Kardashian Kollection event in Sydney. And Taylor Swift (above) stepped up the sheer sleeve game altogether by sporting the fabric in a maroon shade at the Weinstein Company holiday party in West Hollywood.
Up: Majorly embellished dresses. Here’s a trend we can all get behind, considering holiday party season is now in full swing. Some of the most fashionable names in Hollywood decided they’re no longer content with simple sequin; instead, they opted for Swarovski crystal-embellished numbers. Exhibit A: Angelina Jolie, who jazzed up her otherwise basic black gown at the Governors Awards in L.A. Exhibit B: Kate Bosworth (above), who dazzled in a Fendi mini at the Vegas premiere of Homefront.
Down: Chunky platforms. We always appreciate Demi Lovato’s risk-taking style approach, but these extra-clunky heels felt particularly out of place among the sleek metallic pumps and other delicate looking shoes we saw on the red carpet this week. And when you’re attending the premiere of a movie called Frozen, perhaps open-toed shoes aren’t the best way to go.
