Red Carpet Trend Report: The Golden Globes Mani Edition

Heading to the salon for this week? You’ll want to keep this post handy. Stars went for a few major mani looks at Sunday’s Golden Globes, so to celebrate, we rounded up a very special Red Carpet Trend Report for all the top tip tips. (Boom.) Here are the polish looks that are gaining some serious beauty ground (and the ones losing their street cred).

Up: Nude beds. Probably the most popular mani trend on the carpet was natural-looking shades. Sarah Hyland — who went all out with a burgundy reverse French mani at the Emmys — went for something a little subtler this time. “To accomplish this, two coats of Essie’s “BBF Best Boyfriend” were applied, with one coat of Essie’s “Blushing Bride” on the top to give her nail a slightly peachy-pink hue to complement her dress,” celebrity manicurist Christina Aviles explains. Cate Blanchett also went nude, selecting Essie’s “Au Naturel” shade to compliment her clean, flawless makeup. Hayden Panettiere chose the nude opaque shade “Amanda” by Zoya to match her Tom Ford lipstick, while Lupita Nyong’o wore equally pale polish, selecting two shades by Deborah Lippmann: “Naked” (first coat) and “Diamonds And Pearls” (second coat).

Up: Metallic tips. As soon as we saw Kaley Cuoco’s metallic mani, we ordered a bottle of Chanel’s Le Vernis nail polish in “Alchimie.” Chanel celebrity manicurist Ashlie Johnson used two coats of the green-gold color to go with the antique tones and florals in the star’s Rani Zakhem dress, landing her our Beauty Award for Best Nail Color. Another Beauty Award winner for for Best Overall Glamour, Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery, also went for high-shine beds, selecting Essie’s “Penny Talk” to complement her rose-gold Bulgari jewelry.

Down: Crazy Nail Art. Yes, Zooey Deschanel stayed devoted to nail art, but even she toned it down a bit with a subtle floral pattern. Kelly Osbourne on the other hand? Not so subtle. The actress went all-out having Golden Globe statues painted on her middle fingers. She mixed in allover glitter beds for a very bold look, and stood out amid the back-to-basic manis — we loved Julia Roberts chic deep purple Lancôme shade “Midnight Rose” painted by celeb manicurist Lisa Jachno of labnails — the rest of the stars were sporting.
