Cameron Diaz, 41, just keeps adding bullet points to her résumé. After playing photographer and writer for her The Body Book, she also took on the role of artistic director for accessories line Pour La Victoire, helping to oversee the artistic direction of the line. And now the first round of shoes created under her supervision is being released.
The fall 2014 collection features lots of neutrals, luxe suede and leather and moderate heels. And while she’s very clear that she won’t be putting her name on the designs or appearing in the ads, she wants her stamp to be all over the brand.
“When I first came to PLV, I saw the potential in it because it was a brand that didn’t really have its own identity,” she tells Footwear News, adding that she wanted to “pare down” and “refine” the existing collections. “It was a little bit all over the place. I looked at it as an opportunity to help create that.”
That meant lots of late nights at the Pour La Victoire showroom while she was filming Annie, but Diaz says she wouldn’t have had it any other way. “This is very important to me,” she said. “I’m not a person who does anything halfway.”
The star, who attributes her attention to shoe detail to the Charlie’s Angels movies (“We wore heels, ran in heels, did kung fu in heels. We weren’t pretending. Heel function is a very important thing for me.”) is weighing in on the ad campaign (shot by Terry Richardson), much of the upcoming product and may even appear on the brand’s website.
But she wants to make one thing very clear: “I don’t want girls to aspire to be me. That’s not what this brand is about. It’s not about wearing a shoe I would wear,” she said. “I want them to see themselves in this shoe.”
