Nicole Richie is no stranger to drawing fashion inspiration from new and surprising places, but she recently pulled a piece from one very unexpected wardrobe: Her six-year-old daughter Harlow’s.

“Thanks for letting me borrow your jacket Harlow,” the mom of two captioned the below Instagram, showing her snuggled up in the blush pink faux fur coat she wore that day to a Baby2Baby event. And while it’s a full-length coat on her child, it served as a hip-length jacket on Richie, who wore it with belted jeans, ankle booties and a tight blue bun.
Believe it or not, shopping your kid’s closet has precedent in Hollywood — and not just for supermodels and their tween daughters (or grown-up daughters, in the case of Ivanka Trump and Kim Kardashian). Bethenny Frankel caused an internet uproar when she snapped an Instagram of herself squeezed into 4-year-old daughter Bryn’s Hello Kitty PJs. Commenters accused the reality star of trying to flaunt her thin frame, but Frankel insisted her intentions were pure: “When ur 4 year old peanut says ‘mommy please put my dress on’ & giggles uncontrollably, u do what ur told.”
Elsewhere in celeb mommy/daughter clothing escapades, Kim Kardashian shared a shot of her (surprisingly messy) closet while debating what outfit to wear. (She ended up going with the much-derided rabbit fur-soled stilettos.) But the real star of the snap? Toddler North West, who at 18 months old is already showing an interest in Mommy’s closet. Though we’re really hoping it’s many, many years before we see Kim trying on North’s clothes à la Richie and Frankel.
