Singer Natasha Bedingfield might be one of pop’s more adventurous stars, rocking everything from ’80s-inspired dos to a shaved-side coif–but when it comes to her signature blonde color, she likes to stick with what she knows. “I’ve gone a little darker before but have not gone brunette. I’ve never actually gone away from blonde hair,” the 27-year-old told PEOPLE before a free concert Thursday at N.Y.C.’s Highline Ballroom celebrating of her partnership with John Frieda hair care and kicking off the Sheer Blonde Entourage series of events. And while she won’t count out a color change at some time in the future, for now she’s content to admire darker tones on others: “It’s funny, everyone has hair envy, don’t they?” she laughs. Don’t forget about career envy too! For those who are dying to hit the stage with the successful singer, she is giving them the chance of a lifetime to join her and perform one of her hits — you can enter by visiting and uploading audition videos to YouTube. So just what kind of singer does Natasha hope to discover? “Someone who really embodies what the song’s about and can translate it in their own way.” Being aesthetically adventurous doesn’t hurt either: “If they’re not blonde already [I’d love someone who] wouldn’t mind going blonde. They would actually get a chance to have a makeover if they wanted, so they would have to embody the spirit of what being blonde is all about.”–Katherine Kluznik Rentmeester
