Although you might not know her name, you know her work: Does Natalie Portman‘s Oscar-winning purple Rodarte dress or Michelle William‘s mustard-colored Vera Wang dress (worn to the 2006 Oscars) ring a bell? They were seriously stunning, and the lady who gets the credit for those unforgettable looks is Kate Young.
Young, who was named Hollywood’s most powerful stylist by The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, has created so many gorgeous looks for Black Swan‘s Portman, but one particular ensemble stands out: “It’s her in Givenchy couture at the amFAR Gala in Cannes (above, left) which was in ’08,” Young tells Refinery29.
She was torn between two looks for Williams, though; while she adored that yellow Vera Wang creation, “I really, really love the way she looked at the Oscars this year in the Louis Vuitton (above, center),” she reveals.
Young is obviously quite happy with her current clients, but she always has her eye on up-and-coming stars. “When I see new young actresses I get really excited,” she admits. “I really love Elizabeth Olsen.”
Young actually worked with the younger Olsen sister (who already has a stylist) recently. “I shot her for a magazine and I just really liked her,” she says. “I think she’s pretty set, but if she weren’t, I would really like to work with her.” Tell us: Which of Portman and Williams’s red carpet looks is your favorite?
