Looking for a fun, seasonal way to upgrade your go-to, date-night smoky eye? Enter Mila Kunis‘ gorgeous cool blue take on the sultry look, which she wore to the Bad Moms premiere in Westwood, California, earlier this week.
Tracey Levy, the actress’ makeup artist of 17 years, breaks down how she created the “sexy, modern” look, so you can try it, too!
Kunis’ custom-made Versace minidress inspired the pro to opt for the blue lid look. “Her dress was blue, black and red together with a bit of Chinese glamour,” Levy tells PeopleStyle. “I wanted to pick up some of the accent color in the dress and decided to create a graphic eye with that.”
All great makeup looks begin with the flawless skin, so Levy first began getting Kunis premiere-ready with a mini facial using Kate Somerville Dilo Oil. The makeup pro worked the ultra-hydrating oil into the star’s skin in an upward motion starting from her neck, moving to her cheeks and ending with the forehead. And to seal in that added moisture, Levy then applied Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizing Cream to Kunis’ complexion to give her a “glowing finish.”

As for the eyes, the star’s soft graphic eye look was created using a mix of cool hues, which Levy describes as “blue sunset,” from the Chanel Tisse Jazz (244) Eyeshadow Quad. To get the bold makeup move, Levy layered the blue shades from the quad — from darkest to lightest — starting at the lash line and blended out to create a “more dramatic” smoky eye.
While blue shadow is certainly statement-making and can be intimidating in the palette, Levy says the rich color transitions easily from the office to happy hour.
“You can use any kind of blue to make a smoky eye for day or night, depending on our mood,” Levy tells PeopleStyle. “In the middle of the day, you can put light blue all over your lid and add a dark blue or black liner to transition to night.”
Although Kunis curled her own lashes (a step she likes to DIY), Levy gave the actress a glossy pink lip using Tom Ford Lip Color Shine in Bare. And from there, the look was complete!
“We could have gone with a darker lip, but I always tend to play up her eyes — they’re so fantastic,” says Levy. “It’s easier for her to not have to worry about her lip. A nude lip is more comfortable for her.”
