It’s finally the night fashion fanatics have been waiting all year for — the Met Gala! Prepare to see a carpet filled with the industry’s most stylish stars sporting the most head-turning looks on the grand staircase of N.Y.C.’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, all in honor of the design work of Comme des Garçons Creative Director, Rei Kawakubo.
We’ve looked back at some of our favorite Met Gala moments and debated what Comme des Garçons pieces we’d love to see on the carpet tonight, but now the time has arrived to see the daring fashion, makeup and hairstyles worn by the most fashion-forward celebs. The excitement’s building, so check out a behind-the-scenes look at how stars get their glam on for fashion prom.
The Ouai founder and and celeb-loved stylist shared a #TBT photo doing Bella Hadid‘s hair for last year’s Gala wishing everyone the best of luck – and passing along some expert advice to the glam teams on call tonight (including herself!).
Atkin captioned her photo: “Good luck to all of the ladies about to hit that Met Gala red carpet!! I can’t wait to see everyone’s looks!! Special note to all the glamsquads who might be stressing out: there is NO right or wrong in ART…you’re artists…go knock em dead!!”
This year, the hair stylist shared a photo of her work on who appears to be Chrissy Teigen, another one of her loyal clients and friends. The look she’s going for? Long, straight and slicked back!
After Teigen finished getting her hair and makeup done, she hopped in bed completely naked with husband John Legend (who was also shirtless), and appeared to be completely ready to hit the red carpet sans clothes! “Readddddy. #metball,” the star captioned her Instagram photo.
Earlier this weekend, Mindy Kaling shared a sneak peek of dress she plans on wearing for fashion prom: a sparkly navy Prabal Gurung gown with a fringe skirt that was made for Boomerang. “Having too much fun at my #metgala dress fitting,” she captioned the video. “Can I wear this forever? #representing.”
To prep for the big night, Kate Bosworth went to Fourteenjay hair salon in N.Y.C. yesterday to get a fresh, icy blonde color she called “La Creme” on Instagram. “Hair salon or Comme des Garçons???” she joked in her hair salon selfie.
Kate Hudson referenced some of the over-the-top headpieces we’ve seen stars wear in the past at the Met Gala, when she grabbed her morning cup o’ joe wearing an oversize pillow on top of her head. “Gearing up for the Met Ball 🙆🏼 #MetBall2017 #CommesdesGarcons,” she captioned the funny photo.

And after the star’s morning coffee, she and Stella McCartney gave their faces some TLC by using a metallic gold sheet mask before getting hair and makeup done. “Golden slumbers,” Hudson captioned the photo on Instagram. McCartney posted the same photo saying, “Can you guess my Met date?”
It’s Ashley Graham‘s first-ever appearance at the Met Gala her beauty prep started yesterday, with a quick stop at N.Y.C. aesthetician Mzia Shiman’s spa for a facial, which was finished with DECLÉOR’s Aurabsolu Instant Glow Hydrogel Mask. Today, she shared on Instagram her early morning glam session getting her nails done and sipping on a personalized bottle of Moët & Chandon.
On the other hand, fellow model Jourdan Dunn shared her own bathroom getting ready selfie on Instagram, but she was a little more covered up posing in a blue polka dot H&M robe and sheet mask to get her skin prepped for the night ahead.
And makeup artist to the Kardashians Mario Dedivanovic, better known as @MakeupByMario on social media, just finished getting his makeup station ready for the stars he’s working on tonight. In his kit? All Chanel products, including Le Teint Ultra Tenue Ultrawear Flawless Foundation, matte (and mostly neutral) neutral single shadows with two bright purple and coral shades, plus a few deeper hued metallic cream shadows by the brand.
At 10:30am the morning of the Met Gala, Lily Aldridge told her fans on Instagram she was heading to Ralph Lauren, who is designing her dress for the occasion, for her final dress fitting before the red carpet. Her next stop: KryoLife for a quick sub-200 degree cryotherapy session (which stimulates your skin!).
Next, the star headed back to her hotel to start getting ready, but first she made sure to eat up her “annual pre #MetGala Pasta,” which appears to be a delicious plate full of rigatoni bolognese topped off with plenty of parmesan cheese!
For guys, getting ready’s a breeze. Stylist Brad Goreski, who works with stars like Lea Michele and Jenna Dewan Tatum‘s hosting the Met Gala red carpet show on E! and got prepped in as quick as 1, 2, 3. Hair stylist Benjamin Thigpen coiffed his locks, he applied a sheet mask and nibbled on a salad before heading up to the museum to host the show.
It looks like Get Out actress Allison Williams will be wearing her hair curled tonight – the star shared a getting ready selfie on Instagram story getting her hair done for the big ball. “And so it begins!” she said.
Just call Miranda Kerr the Met Gala multitasking maven. The 34-year-old model did a pre-party ballet stretch while giving her skin a boost with the Kora Organics hydrating mask (that’s her own beauty line and available at Net-a-Porter!).

Tonight Halle Barry‘s making her debut at the Met Gala, and she and her stylist Lindsay Flores couldn’t be more excited. The star sprawled out on the black and white striped floor of her hotel with her accessories for the big event: three black heel options (including a sandal, classic pump and sexy tie-up), a red clutch, gold jewelry, a Chanel compact and red nail polish!
In typical sarcastic Lena Dunham fashion, the Girls star made a statement by posting a makeup-free selfie in the bathroom with her hair pulled back in disarray and topless, captioning the photo, “Met ready.” Is the star in fact actually Met Gala ready and planning on attending the glamorous event bare faced? Only time will tell.
