After visiting Haiti following the earthquake of 2010, Maria Bello was inspired to help. So the actress rounded up some associates and founded We Advance, an organization designed to help the poorest victims get back on their feet, receive adequate healthcare and have access to an education.
To raise funds for her non-profit, Bello is partnering with LovingEco.com this week; she curated products for a sale on the environmentally friendly site, and in turn, they’re donating three percent of proceeds to We Advance.
“People often ask me how they can help — they don’t know where to start,” Bello tells PEOPLE. “LovingEco offers people the chance to give back, while also providing fashionable products. It’s about style for change.”
Items in Bello’s sale include the We Advance necklace, designed by Caroline Sada, Shelley Clay and the female artisans of The Apparent Project, another organization that helps Haiti’s neediest residents. “Each bead is handmade from recycled cereal boxes, and the medallion pendant is made from recycled oil drums,” Bello explains.
The Prime Suspect star says she tries to shop organically when she can. “I, for one, am more apt to buy a product that I know will benefit the artisans who made them, and support eco and social consciousness,” she shares. “Also, I have found that people love getting a gift that gives back!” Shop Bello’s sale on LovingEco.com through Sunday.
