When Thrive Causemetics founder Karissa Bodnar was 24 years old and working for L’Oréal, her friend Kristy was diagnosed with cancer. And while Kristy battled her illness, Karissa, who had a longtime love for beauty, was able to use her expertise in order to help her friend feel her best at all times. When Kristy passed away nine months later, Karissa was inspired to create Thrive Causemetics, a line of products with safe ingredients vetted for women battling cancer, came about.
“I was able to be Kristy’s confidante and friend when it came to beauty products and what she was going through, whether it was her lips were dry or she needed something to brighten her eyes,” Karissa says in a preview for this week’s episode of PEOPLE’s List. “Kristy was brave, she was fearless, and what I admire most about Kristy is till her last breath, she was thriving.”
Two years later, Bodnar has created a line that not only has the power to make women feel beautiful, but also gives back. For every individual product purchased, one is donated to a woman in need.
