Kristen Stewart may once have thought it was “bizarre” to be considered a fashion trendsetter, but apparently some of the biggest names in fashion don’t agree. First, she was named the face of Balenciaga fragrance, and now Karl Lagerfeld has tapped her to be the face of Chanel’s 2013-2014 Métiers d’Arts ad campaign.
Lagerfeld himself will shoot the ad campaign, which is due to be released in May 2014. Both he and Stewart were on hand in Dallas Tuesday night to fête the big news — he in a version of his white collar, black shirt and white ponytail uniform, she in the high-waisted leather palazzo pants, crop top and waist-tied shirt seen above at left.
Stewart may strike some as an odd choice, considering she’s more often spotted in distressed denim than dramatic high fashion. But in fact, she and the haute house go way back. She even sported Chanel Couture to the 2010 Met Gala (far right), thought it was three more years before she scored a front-row seat at the brand’s Haute Couture fashion show in July, which she attended in a Karl-approved palette of black and white, accessorized with short shorts, biker gloves and a whole lot of attitude.
The most recent celebrity faces of Chanel have been ethereal blondes Diane Kruger, Blake Lively and Brad Pitt, so we’re interested to see how Lagerfeld shoots the moody, edgy and brunette Stewart. Are you excited for Stewart’s new gig? Is it a good fit? And which of her Chanel looks is your favorite?
