Katy Perry's 'Purr'-fect New Perfume Launch

With a new album on the way and wedding plans to actor-comedian Russell Brand underway, what more could native “California Gurl” Katy Perry possibly want? Her own perfume! “I have about 50 fragrances and I’m intrigued by the mystique scent has,” Perry tells WWD. “I saw a lot of my peers getting into this world, and, as with my music, I thought I could bring my touch to the category and make it competitive,” she says, citing fellow stars-turned-perfumers like Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian. As for the unusual and fun name — two Perry trademarks — Katy explains, “I’m a very lyrical-based person, and the whole ‘purr’ thing kept coming back — [the sound is in] perfume, perfect, even Perry if you say it a certain way.” And while she admits to owning iconic fragrances like Clinique Happy, Ralph Lauren’s Romance and Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle, she says she wanted to develop a scent that “was completely unlike anything I’d smelled before.” Including notes of peach nectar, apple and green bamboo, as well as freesia, Bulgarian rose and vanilla orchid–all packaged in a cat-shaped bottle inspired by her own on-stage Catwoman costume–we are sure it will be purr-fect.
