Katy Perry Goes Light-Bright for Her Met Gala Gown

To say that Katy Perry lit up last night’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala is an understatement–the singer literally glowed on the red carpet in a color-changing LED dress! Accessorized with Christian Louboutin shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, the flowing pink and white gown with a dramatic slit—designed by CuteCircuit, a British fashion company that specializes in wearable technology—was lined with tubes containing the smallest full-color LED bulbs possible, according to the Daily Mail. “I chose it because balls tend to be very stuffy, and I like to lighten things up,” the engaged star told PEOPLE. “I’m doing this for myself, most of all. And I think that’s what people should do, especially if they are representing true women in American fashion.” But would the 25-year-old keep the lights going all night, even at dinner? “I’ve got a little buzzer in my breast,” she said, pulling out the off switch, a red button at the end of a wire. “Not really appropriate with what’s been going on in New York City lately. We’re not allowed in Times Square,” she quipped.–David Yi; reporting by Jeffrey Slonim
