Julianne Hough Dyes Hair Pink: All About Her 'Unicorn' Beauty Transformation

Posted on

Easter egg hair is having a moment. January Jones went for a dusty rose shade. Hilary Duff went aqua green. Amber Rose went classic blue, and now Julianne Hough has left her blonde roots behind for an allover pastel pink hue. And she’s sharing all the inside scoop with fans.

PEOPLE’s Dancing with the Stars blogger opened up about her new look on her own blog, explaining that she’s not afraid to push the envelope when it comes to her hair.

“I love to experiment with my looks by way of beauty products, styling tools and sometimes even taking things a step further,” she wrote. “Remember last year when I chopped off all my hair? It was a big, bold move but it was so worth it! It felt liberating not to hide behind all that hair. So why did I decide on the color pink this time? Because pink is the color of kindness!” (Hough’s referring to Lauren Paul and Molly Thompson’s anti-bullying project, Kind Campaign.)

Hough’s mane master Riawna Capri (who was also behind Duff’s “mermaid” transformation) is behind the star’s bold color transformation.

“If you’re thinking to yourself, ‘No, I really am a unicorn!’ and you want to go for it roots to ends — I respect that,” the dancer explained. “My best advice is to please see a professional. Keep in mind that all-over bleach will result in roots about every 4-6 weeks, so be ready for that touch up. Don’t embarrass your stylist by not keeping up your unicorn magic. This look can go from hot to hot mess really easily.”

And for all of Hough’s fellow unicorns out there, she advises you to pay attention to your eye color before picking a pastel shade.

“Something about purple hair and green eyes always works. Blue eyes can pull off pink so well. With brown eyes it really depends on skin tone, but they have the most potential to pull off all colors,” she shared, adding, “A side note for you au natural ladies: you may feel the need to wear more makeup than usual with rainbow colored hair. Very few unicorns are able to pull off the undone/natural look.”

We can’t wait to see how the star styles her new do on DWTS each week. Be sure to come to PEOPLE for all the exclusive details on her look. What do you think of her pink hair? Do you want to jump on the pastel bandwagon? Sound off below.
