That sound you just heard coming from the PEOPLE StyleWatch offices was a collective “Nooooooooo!” as we discovered that hunky actor (and two-time PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive winner) Johnny Depp had made a major change to his famously shaggy locks.

We’d be lying if we said we hadn’t been hoping for Depp to abandon that funky-John-Mayer thing he was doing for a while there, and for the most part, he complied, attending the BFI London Film Festival in a sharp, simple suit and a clean-shaven face. But we didn’t realize the trade-off to get him to lose the scarves and suspenders would be that he’d gain a bleach-blonde (verging on yellow) mane in exchange.

Depp fans are typically willing to overlook almost anything thanks to the star’s roguish good charm and great smile, but we wonder if this center-parted, floppy blond look may be a bridge too far even for them. Let us know in the comments how this new haircut makes you feel. We can all get through this together.
