Jenna Dewan Tatum has a great sense of style, so it’s easy to see why the actress was recently recognized for her fashion choices.
“It’s another side of my personality. [Fashion] is something I inherently genuinely really love,” Dewan Tatum told PeopleStyle at the second annual StyleMakers awards hosted by Variety & WWD, where the former Witches of East End star, 35, was honored with the Style Renegade award, on Thursday.
“I love living out these different sides of my personalities for these events and for characters on TV and film as well,” Dewan Tatum said. “But there’s something about being able to—the dress and the make up and the hair all coming together for a certain kind of look, I think it’s fun, and if it isn’t fun then we shouldn’t be doing it.”
“It’s nice; it’s a different shade of myself,” added the actress, who was joined by husband Channing Tatum and bestie Emmanuelle Chriqui at the event. Also with the group was celebrity hair stylist Jen Atkin, who presented the star with her award.
And she couldn’t ask for a better group of style advisors, starting with her husband. “He’s really fashionable, so I do ask his opinion a lot. But he trusts me [and] lets me do my thing. I think he knows. He’s like, ‘She’s going to do what she wants,'” Dewan Tatum said with a laugh.
It’s Chriqui, though, who she tends to turn to for serious style advice, despite their very different styles.
“Em was always the more tomboy side of me, so we would go out, and literally she would be in the pantsuit and I’d be in the frilly fairy dress,” says Dewan Tatum, who says that the two have “been switching” styles recently.
“We call each other and we’re like, ‘Well, what are you wearing? Do you want to come with me?'” explains Dewan Tatum. “And [Emmanuelle] tells me her inspiration, and I was like, ‘I saw this picture of Georgia Fowler, this model’ and I was like, ‘I’ve got to do that hair! I just love it!’ and she’s like, ‘Do it! It will look amazing.'”
“We’re true besties in that way,” says Dewan Tatum.
