At first thought, the idea of wearing pink eye shadow might seem too girly or too 90s, or simply to much like having pink eye. But according to looks we’ve seen on Khloé Kardashian, Shay Mitchell and Kate Hudson recently, pink eye shadow is not only possible to pull off, but it can look really gorgeous. So in order to learn how rock a pink look without dipping into Lisa Frank territory, we’ve enlisted Hudson’s pro, Avon celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen, to teach us how to DIY it in the How It’s Done video, above.
To create the look, Andersen first applies a bubblegum pink cream eye shadow all over the eyelid, using light taps with her finger. Then, she dips a fluffy eyeshadow brush in a matching shimmery pink powder shade (she’s using Avon’s For the Love of Makeup Artist Palette), covering the lid up to the crease. Next, she makes the pink pop even more by going back into the pink powder with her finger, and pressing the shadow onto the eyelid, which she says deposits more pigment onto the skin, making the color bolder.
To add dimension, Andersen adds a burgundy shade at the outer corners. Then, she uses a smudging brush to apply the lighter pink along the bottom lash lines, layering the burgundy on top as well. Next, she lines the top and bottom lash lines with a reddish-purple eyeliner before using her smudging brush to blend the top line upwards.
She finishes the eye with a few coats of Avon’s Wide Awake Mascara, and then tops off the look with a matching, poppy pink lip.
