While some stars are all about the dramatic hair changes (from half-shaved heads to colorful hues), other celebs are more practical with their visits to the salon. Sometimes, all a girl wants is a fresher look without losing a ton of length. If you, like these celebs, are just seeking a subtle tress transformations this summer, we found two cuts that might be worth showing to your stylist.

Hayden Panettiere just paid a visit to Hollywood hair master Chris McMillan (not only is he Jennifer Aniston‘s go-to guy, but he also did Kim Kardashian’s wedding hair), adding a few layers and a heavy side-bang to her shoulder-length chop for some fun movement. Not only does the style feel fresh, but the Nashville star didn’t have to lose much length to get the swingy feel.
“It’s a fun work day when you get to watch @mrchrismcmillan give #haydenpanettiere a fab new #cut,” Panettiere’s makeup artists Amy Oresman captioned the below snap on Instagram.
Back in March, the actress told PEOPLE she really liked her shorter cut. “My hair was so damaged before, I had to cut it off and give it a rest. I love having short hair. But the grass is always greener. You have it for a couple of months, and then you’re ready to go back to long.”
Panettiere isn’t the only star to get a subtle cut you might have missed. Cameron Diaz trimmed an inch or two from her blonde strands and evened out her layers for a more sophisticated, less girlish crop. Again, she retained most of her length, but gave the look a little more shape. She debuted the new look at the Spike TV’s Guys’ Choice Awards.
Diaz’s look isn’t jaw-droppingly different, but it is freshened up enough to elicit that “Wow, you look amazing, have you lost weight or fall in love?!” reaction that a great haircut should elicit. (Although in Diaz’s case, it really could be the latter!) What do you think of her look? Should she go even shorter? How about Panettiere? Do you like her shag?
