Taraji P. Henson is two-for-two on Emmys night! First, she walked the red carpet in a ridiculously sexy yellow gown with sultry, tousled waves to match. Then the Empire star did a total 180° when she took the stage to present the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award in a second stop-and-stare gown with a completely new hairstyle — a blunt bob with bangs that her pro, Kim Kimble, tells PeopleStyle was inspired by the big screens ultimate boss lady: Michelle Pfeiffer’s Scarface character, Elvira Hancock.

“We wanted to achieve a chic and fashionable look,” says Kimble, who spent 30 minutes backstage giving Henson a dramatically sleek chin-length bob and straight bangs (which we’re betting is a wig; the pro would not confirm). She also swapped into a sequin long-sleeve bronze gown with a plunging keyhole neckline (like her red carpet gown, it was Vera Wang Collection).

“[Taraji] was excited about the idea of changing hair looks during the show. The hair change was a quick and easy transition,” says Kimble.

The second dress is perfect for her afterparty look — after all, the actress Instagrammed two Edie Parker customized clutches with her initials written in glitter. She already carried the tan version walking the carpet, and its bronze twin would match perfectly with her second gown.

When she first hit the carpet, Henson wore a highlighter-yellow custom Vera Wang Collection gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Jimmy Choo heels and kept her beauty look very low-key with loose waves and a simple barely-there makeup look.

For Henson’s “effortless” waves, Kimble, who also gave us Beyoncé’s unforgettable, wet Grammy hair, enhanced the texture of the actress’ air-dried hair using a GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand, then created the wet look by using her own Bounce Back Curl Revitalizer “sparingly.”

Adds Kimble: “I collaborated with her and her glam team. Taraji is very involved.”
