Emmys 2014: See Heidi Klum's 'Effortless, Vibrant' Zac Posen Gown Before She Hits the Red Carpet!

Posted on

Heidi Klum is going from cool blue to red hot.

After rocking a fabulously fringed ombré dress (by Project Runway contestant Sean Kelly)to the Creative Arts Emmys last week, the stunning supermodel is ready for primetime. She shared a sketch of the fiery, draped gown (created by Project Runway co-judge Zac Posen) she’ll wear to Monday’s awards with PEOPLE, summarizing the look in three words: “Sleek. Sexy. Glamorous.”

“It was my first time ever visiting Zac’s studio! There were so many dresses everywhere. I loved the color of this dress and the sleekness of it,” she tells PEOPLE of choosing the caped frock, which she’ll pair with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

So why the style 180°? “My dress for the Creative Arts Emmys was part of a challenge for our Project Runway designers this season, so it was sort of an ‘Anything can happen’ situation! Sean Kelly designed a beautiful dress that had really playful movement,” says Klum, 41. “For the Primetime Emmys, Zac and I found a look that was a little more sophisticated, with a pop of color.”

Posen loved the “camellia”-colored dress for his supermodel muse. “It was truly surprising that everyone in the room fell in love with it the moment she tried it on. The ease of the dress, against my more structured pieces, felt refreshing,” he says of the “clean, effortless and vibrant” creation.

The designer — who will also walk the carpet as Klum’s lucky date — says he wanted to make his fierce friend something a little different for her. “I thought it would be interesting to have a ‘Heidi-the-person’ moment on the carpet, rather than putting the emphasis on ‘Heidi-the-Body,'” he explains. “This look is sexy without showing too much.”

It’s hard to imagine Klum not being sexy, but she admits she’ll have to call on her model training to really make Posen’s creation come to life on the carpet. This is definitely the kind of dress that you have to remember to have good posture while wearing!” she says. “I will be standing up straight all night.”
