As expected the fall 2016 couture collections, currently presenting in Paris, have been re-inventive (Viktor & Rolf), had stunning and clever staging (Chanel) and of course, have had a sea of A-listers sitting pretty in the front row. But one that particularly surprised us was the mommy-and-me spin at the Elie Saab presentation.

Eight models in the 55-piece collection walked down the runway with their exact mini look-alikes, each donning scaled-down versions of the grown-up gowns. Aside from slight variations (higher necklines or sleeve-length differences) all the child-size pieces contained the same sparkle, shine and pizzazz as its counterparts.

In addition to the brand’s dip into the mommy-and-me matching market, the collection strayed slightly from its usually monochromatic, floral-adorned lineup. This show presented gowns that featured a sky-scraper theme, bird-print appliqués and a plethora of starburst accents that will no doubt set the next major celebrity red carpet affair on fire.

How these tiny creations will sell is another story, but since the brand is opening its first-ever store-front in the U.S. (on Madison Avenue in 2017) getting your little one into couture could never be easier. (That is, if you have thousands of extra dollars laying around and she has the swankiest flower girl duties to attend to.)
