Welcome Allison Teng, 26, of Curvy Girl Chic, who is joining us as our resident plus-size style blogger. She was featured in the March issue of PEOPLE StyleWatch and will be contributing regularly to the site. This week, she’s all about being adventurous with color for spring.
Clothes are such a great way to boost confidence, and color in particular boosts my mood. I’ll be the first to admit that I fall back on black too often: It’s just so easy, and as a total klutz, I appreciate its stain-hiding properties. A lot of plus women also like it because it’s slimming, but I don’t think there’s any truth to the beliefs that you should or shouldn’t wear a certain color. It’s really about which shades you like.
For spring, I like blue! This outfit takes that hue and works it into my version of a garden-party look. I wanted something fresh and non-wintery that didn’t feel overwhelmingly Easter egg-y. It all started with the high-waisted skirt (it’s ASOS) , which is one of those secret pieces that looks great on almost everyone. I’m an inverted triangle (bigger on top than bottom), and this skirt actually makes it look like I have hips! That said, if you wanted to hide your hips, the cut would do that, too. The below-the-knee hem works on so many body types. And I love faux-leather everything — its structure has this flared effect that’s really flattering.
I added a Forever 21 top and Report heels in crisp white and a cream textured H&M clutch. Since the clothes are light and airy, I opted for minimal jewelry: just a couple of thin gold rings I picked up from Etsy and Shop Dama. This look is simple, but in it I feel pulled-together and totally ready for spring.
What’s your go-to hue for spring? Are you going to try something new with the warmer temperatures?
