Selena Gomez dove right into her first fragrance campaign — literally!
Her sexy debut perfume ad, shot at Smashbox Studios in West Hollywood, depicts the actress partially submerged in a tub of H2O. “The water is actually lit from underneath, so it made it look pink and purple, like the colors of the bottle,” Gomez recently told PEOPLE. “I wanted it to look like I was swimming in my fragrance.”
Fittingly, Gomez donned a purple Maria Lucia Hohan dress for the shoot (it was originally soft pink but dyed just for her) — one quite similar to the gown that inspired the perfume bottle. She paired the look with slicked-back hair, smoky eyes, gold hoops and a dewy glow.
The Disney starlet has been upping her fashion ante on the red carpet lately, stepping out in edgier looks (that are still fan-appropriate). So it’s no surprise that she went in a similar direction for her fragrance shoot. “It’s very romantic, very sensual,” she shared. “But it’s fun and beautiful at the same time.”
And though she’s dressing like a grownup, she’s still thinking like the 19-year-old she is … sometimes. “I don’t really understand why I decided to be underwater [in the ad],” she said, “but it looked cool!”
Gomez’s sweet namesake scent features notes of raspberry, chocolate, and vanilla (fans helped choose the ingredients) and hits Macy’s stores and macys.com in mid-May. Tell us: What do you think of Gomez’s perfume ad?
