When PEOPLE had a chance to catch up with actress, blogger, beauty app founder and all-around style-setter, Cara Santana, we were pretty excited. (In case you haven’t checked it out, her website is packed with #ootd inspiration.) And we were equally delighted when her heartthrob boyfriend Jesse Metcalfe stopped by too. The stylish couple told PEOPLE all about coordinating their clothes and much more. Here’s what we found out:
Santana’s the co-founder of The Glam App
She describes the app as an Uber for hair, makeup and nails with freelance beauty pros. “I really wanted to find a way to access the freelance hair makeup and nail industry and create a platform for them to be able to continue to build their brand, build their clientele and expand on what they’re already doing,” she tells PEOPLE. Santana also wanted to create a space where professional beauty services didn’t have to cost hundreds (or in some cases, thousands!) of dollars. To launch the app, she teamed up with longtime friend and hair and beauty artist Joey Maalouf (who gives amazing style tips for summer hair, by the way). They currently operate in N.Y.C., L.A., San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orange Country, Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago and Miami (and hope to expand to London next year).
She’s obsessed with the “Bombshell Blowout” service
“It’s actually really embarrassing because we go through our analytics on a monthly basis,” she explains. “And the team was saying the account numbers that use each service the most. And we opened the Bombshell Blowout and it was me. So you at least know I use my own app. I use it more than everyone.”
Metcalfe adds, “Cara uses all the services so it’s a good way to vet the stylists and see what works and what doesn’t work. I’ve become accustomed to getting ready with two or three random women in the room.”
She has a “glam room” at home (Yes, you read that right)
“We actually just bought a new home and I built a whole glam room. Jesse was kind enough to allow me to. It’s in between the closet and the bathroom and complete with a full mirror, makeup lighting and a makeup chair. So that’s where I get my hair and makeup done — it’s perfect.”
She gets fashion cues from Metcalfe
While the couple was in N.Y.C. for Men’s New York Fashion Week, Santana explains she really put together outfits based on Metcalfe. “I want to compliment whatever he’s wearing and he has impeccable style so it’s really stressful. But I definitely think I’m more influenced by structured pieces in menswear. The dress I wore last night was very structured and almost had a tuxedo feel to it.” [seen in the photo above]
She never picks out her clothes the night before (she’s just that good)
“What I love about fashion is its way to communicate how you’re feeling without even having to open your mouth,” she shares. “So however I’m feeling in the morning really indicates what I’m going to put on. So I wake up, I go to the gym, I have coffee, and I let my mood take me and inspire me throughout my day.”

The key to a good Instagram post is no filter
She advises to post bright, clear photographs and enhance the exposure if needed to draw out the colors. “If you can spot the filter, you didn’t do a good filter.”
Her secret to flawless skin is tinted moisturizer
“I’m a less is more type of person.” She’s never without Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer, saying it’s just enough to even out her skin tone. “And if that doesn’t work then I go to phase two and get the smoothing app, and just smooth the eyes to get rid of dark circles and it looks like I’m wearing Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer.”
Metcalfe is obsessed with white V-neck T-shirts
“We just moved, and I moved his closet from our old house,” explains Santana. “He has more white V-neck t-shirts than any human.” Metcalfe adds, “I’m on a quest for the perfect T-shirt!”
You can see Santana on the new season of Salem and her upcoming Indy film, Smart Ass.
