For her upcoming role on HBO’s new Danny McBride series Vice Principals, actress Busy Philipps dyed the ends of her golden locks blue. And while she’s a bit addicted to the color change, her family members have differing opinions.

“It was sort of teal. Then, I was off for a month of shooting. Then, when I went back, the colorist and I went a little overzealous, and it went bright blue,” Philipps, 43, told PEOPLE at the premiere of Colin Hanks’s new documentary All Things Must Pass on Thursday in Los Angeles, where she had her blonde and blue hair in braids.
And though they might like the blue look on set, at home it’s a completely different story, specifically in the eyes of daughter Birdie, 7. “She doesn’t like it. She doesn’t think it’s very pretty,” laughed Philipps who also has one other daughter, Cricket, 2. “It’s all right. I’m OK with it. I’ve gone through it. I talked about it in therapy. We’re fine.”
However, she does find little joy in knowing that Cricket won’t be able to dye her hair anytime in the near future, even if she wanted to. “My daughter does go to a school where they have uniforms and they’re not allowed to color their hair. So, sorry, out of luck,” joked Philipps.
As for Philipps herself, she’s all about the trend of dyeing hair, no matter what color. “Personally, I’m all for everyone finding their own bliss. Hashtag Blessed. Whatever you want to get you through the day. If it’s green hair, go for it,” added Philipps.
