After spending some time apart (she was in Manhattan on United Nations business; he was in L.A.), Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reunited June 23 for a laid-back afternoon with her son Maddox, 4, near her house in the bucolic village of Fulmer in Buckinghamshire, England.

Maddox, says an observer, “was very excited watching Brad ride around. He kept looking at his mother, asking when he was going to have a ride.” When Jolie gave her consent, Pitt took over. “Brad put a safety helmet on him, then talked quietly to him, showing where to hold the handlebars,” the source says. “Brad kept riding back close to Angelina so she could share in the fun.”

THREE FOR THE ROAD
After their respite, on June 28, Jolie waited with Maddox and Pitt to board a private plane at Luton airport near London. The scene was a departure from the past several weeks, when the two – who’ve never acknowledged a romance – had taken care not to appear too close, stepping back from the togetherness they displayed when a photographer snapped them playing with Maddox in Kenya in April.

BACK TO WORK
Their new level of public togetherness may have to be put on hold, though. Pitt, a spokesman for the antipoverty One Campaign, is scheduled to participate in the July 2 Live 8 concert to raise public awareness about the plight of Africa’s poor. Meanwhile, Jolie, a United Nations goodwill ambassador, plans to head to Africa soon and, in August, is due to start filming The Good Shepherd opposite Matt Damon.

JEN IN THE CITY
Meanwhile, Pitt’s ex Jennifer Aniston has been doing pretty well on her own in Chicago, where she’s filming The Break Up with Vince Vaughn (left, on the set). “She looks great – glowing,” says one woman who spotted her. Indeed, she seems eager to show a small-town friendliness to Chicagoans, smiling and waving to fans. She even stopped to talk to four local teachers, saying, “Chicago is such a great city, but it’s a little hot.”

KEEPING A SMILE
She has been spending her time chiefly with three males. She’s making the movie with Vaughn (left, on the set), with whom she’s dined; her choice of gym buddy is her longtime friend and hairstylist Chris McMillan; and she ends every day on the set with her corgi-terrier mix Norman. Plus, she often eats “regular people food” with the extras, says a source.

Aniston and McMillan walked Norman in Chicago on June 19. “She’s always talking about Norm,” says one source on the set. “Every time she goes back to the trailer, he’s waiting for her at the door.”
