Blake Lively may have a former People’s Sexiest Man Alive, Ryan Reynolds, to accompany her to premieres — but for fashion shows, it’s a whole different story. Her mom, Elaine, has become a front-row fixture alongside her fashionista daughter. Last year, the duo attended the Marchesa show together (Elaine in a poncho borrowed from her daughter’s closet, no less) and this year, the two sat front row at Michael Kors — much to Kors’s delight.
“In another life, Michael and my mom would run away together and ride into the sunset on white ponies,” Lively joked. “They’re a match made in heaven, they’re both shiny and happy and radiant people, who just [go by the motto] ‘Nothing can get us down.’ ” (Echoes Michael: “My mom couldn’t come, so I’m thrilled that Blake’s mom could be here … We do generations!”)

And how is Blake’s other plus one doing since being crowned People’s Sexiest Dad Alive? Great, as long as you have a sense of humor about the razzing he’s getting from his family. “SDA, 2016,” Blake said, laughing (we assume she’s getting that acronym monogrammed on a bunch of baseball caps). “It’s just so silly, people ball-busting. Our friends taking shirtless pictures and writing, ‘Am I the sexiest Dad alive?’ Our cousins sending pictures of their pot bellies, saying, ‘What about this?’ It’s funny.”
And though Blake’s baby James may be a little too young to get in on the fun, she was still top of mind for her grandma, who shed some light on the tradition in her family of giving daughters traditionally masculine names.
“James is a family name — my dad was named James, [Ryan’s] dad was named James, my brother,” Mrs. Lively explained. And as for her daughter Blake’s name, “Her older sister Laurie had that picked out, but it was also my mother’s only brother. He was gorgeous, and he died tragically — he was really young, so it’s a really special name. It’s a family name.”
So is James the light of her life these days? “Oh, I have seven grandchildren,” Elaine said, not to play favorites. “And they’re all in first place.”
Would you bring your mom front row? How cute are the Livelys?
