Three icons. Three blowout birthday parties. Three very different dresses. This is how Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Coco Austin celebrated their most recent trip around the sun this weekend.

First up: Lady Gaga, who turned 30 at L.A.’s No Name club Saturday with a little help from the world’s most high-wattage guest list (Taylor Swift! Kate Hudson! Chrissy Teigen!). Gaga may be embracing a more subdued style these days, but she wasn’t going to step out of the spotlight at her 30th birthday; instead, she made sure to stay center stage thanks to her puff-sleeve, gold lamé Saint Laurent number and her favorite pair of 10-in. Brian Atwood heels, plus a Lorraine Schwartz diamond necklace that probably temporarily blinded an astronaut or two. You certainly couldn’t miss her, no matter where you were on the dance floor — which we think was probably the point.

Another pop diva who knows a little somethinga bout the spotlight, Mariah Carey, rang in her (cough cough) birthday (she’s “eternally oblivious to age,” darling) in Copenhagen while on her Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour. And though she wasn’t calling it a birthday (try “Lambiversary” instead) she certainly wasn’t skimping on the celebration either, enjoying fireworks, diamonds and the company of some scantily-clad male dancers. And she did it all while wearing an ivory-and-silver minidress and sparkling heels (which, if she was in the habit of recycling clothes, would make a fabulous bachelorette party ensemble).
Finally, Coco (of Ice-T and Coco fame) had a birthday bash of her own in Las Vegas, wearing a Versace minidress that showed off her voluptuous curves and matched her Chanel-bag-and-Louboutin theme cake. No Coco look would be complete without lots of bling, lots of makeup and sky-high heels, and she did not disappoint on any one of those fronts. It’s nice to know that while some things change for the 37-year-old new mom, other things stay steadfastly the same.
