If you skipped the Tony awards Sunday night and were wondering “What’d I Miss?” let us tell you: Barbra Streisand made her return to the Tony Awards stage after 46 years to announce Hamilton as the winner of best musical. And she wasn’t going to throw away her shot by showing up in just any outfit. She made the most of the occasion by wearing a Hamilton-inspired ensemble, of course.
“Thank God I picked the right outfit,” Streisand joked while presenting the final award of the evening, showing that one can never estimate the power of being in the Room Where It Happens, and that even the great Barbra Streisand is Helpless in the face of the theatrical juggernaut. “The Tony goes to … Hamilton!”
Her look of choice? A black blazer layered over a tuxedo-style vest and a victorian-inspired shirt complete with a ruffled front and frilled cuffs, which she paired with a floor-length black skirt.
But a Hamilton-style low pony to complete the ensemble wasn’t in the cards: she went with her signature pin-straight, center-parted strands, proving that even when she’s on theme, she’s still Barbra — and she’s always going to Blow Us All Away. Even if she’d come in a Hamilton wig, we’d have been Satisfied. (And as many of you know, Hollywood’s sartorial tributes to Hamilton have been Non-Stop this year — remember Sarah Jessica Parker’s Met Gala look?)

Streisand has been dabbling in a bunch of major pop culture moments lately; she recently released a sneak peek of her recording of “At the Ballet” with Anne Hathaway and Daisy Ridley, so we don’t think it’s too much to hope for a Star Wars or Devil Wears Prada outfit for her next big act.
