Avril Lavigne‘s black Monique Lhuillier wedding gown may have been nontraditional – but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have all the same concerns as a traditional bride.
“I didn’t want it to be crazy and puffy,” she tells ET Canada in an interview that airs tonight. “I didn’t want it to wear me.”
But she did want it to be “gothic” to reflect the atmosphere of her south of France castle wedding, with lots of red and black candles and roses. “I wanted to get married at midnight then party ’til the wee hours in the morning,” she shares. “But we got married around 9:00, then we left the castle about 6 or 7 in the morning when the sun was up, which is our style anyway.”
Also her style: giant rings, which new husband Chad Kroeger knows well. To complement her 14-carat pear- shape engagement sparkler, the Nickelback frontman gave his wife a 20-carat emerald ring for their wedding day.
As for the honeymoon? It couldn’t have been more different than their goth-glam wedding. After a few days in Italy, they went home. “It sounds kinda funny, but for us, we travel so much that we just wanted to go home and be married,” Lavigne tells ET Canada. “I’m very domestic and I love to cook, and when we’re home … we love doing stuff outside, having campfires.”
