Thanksgiving was almost a week ago, but we spotted a pilgrim in Paraguay the other day. Oh, what’s that? It’s just Lady Gaga? Our bad!
The singer is just one of many stars who have fallen for the latest shoe style: the ‘pilgrim’ shoe. Part loafer — often with a heel — the funky footwear is chunky, colorful and reminds us of old-school ’90s clogs. And not in a good way.
Gaga chose Versace shoes for her day out in Paraguay’s capital, Asunción. But she’s not the first star we’ve seen in the shoes: Elle Fanning has an affinity for the not-so-sleek silhouette, too. The actress selected a purple pair for a recent screening in New York City, pairing them with her fairly basic LBD. (Thankfully she didn’t wear them with this dress.)
We have Marc Jacobs to thank (or, uh, blame) for the trend: the designer included high-heeled buckled loafers in his fall 2012 fashion show, and even wore them while taking a bow. But while we’re certainly thankful for that first Thanksgiving — and for today’s designer looks — we think this is a fad that should stay safely in the past. What do you think? Tell us: Are you a fan of ‘pilgrim’ shoes?
