Add another name to Riccardo Tisci’s ever-growing list of muses! The Givenchy creative director has tapped multi-hyphenate star Alicia Keys for her first beauty campaign, as the face of his upcoming fragrance, Dahlia Divin.
Like many of Tisci’s collaborations, the fragrance campaign came about as the result of his personal friendship with Keys. “Spiritually we’re a lot alike. The fashion world can make you a little soulless. So when I met him, it was nice to see that he’s really soulful,” she tells WWD. “As time passed, [the fragrance] came to fruition. I love what Givenchy is about. Givenchy is this timeless, chic, but very strong woman, but with an edgier, almost street feel. I love that she’s raw, but she’s powerful — and that’s who I believe I am, too.”
She also notes that she and Tisci have collaborated before, on a series of outfits for four anniversary concerts she staged on the 10th anniversary of her first album. “He designed the look for [the shows],” she said. “It was heavy metal — everything of his is just really heavy, but it was supercool.” Tisci also designed the look she wears in the Tim Walker-shot ads, and Keys contributed a song for the upcoming TV spots.
The WWD article mentions that the new scent, with notes of jasmine, mirabelle plum and patchouli, is “to celebrate women as modern-day goddesses,” a concept Keys is definitely on board with. “As women, we are very diverse — but strong and passionate,” she said. “This scent is grounded, but still has a femininity that is very earthy, and I love that.”
