For over a decade, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been a force to be reckoned with in the music and the fashion industry. And with a footwear, clothing and fragrance already under his belt, the rapper and Power actor is now launching his first collection of men’s undergarments with FRIGO.
His limited-edition, luxury line, FRIGO Crown, consists of two key pieces: A $150 T-shirt and $150 boxer brief. Both will retail at Neiman Marcus stores this holiday season, just in time for you to make a major upgrade to you dude’s underwear drawer.
“For a man, everything comes three in a pack. No one’s saying, ‘let me figure out how to evolve men’s underwear,’” says the seasoned designer, who was determined to elevate the category for guys.
For 50, his first foray into undergarments had to be as impactful as any album he drops, so he had his hand in every detail, from the fit to the fabric. Working along side FRIGO, they chose a patented fabric with exceptional moisture-wicking properties, intended to keep any man’s nether regions fresh. Then they completed the pieces with the brand’s fully customizable pouch. “Once you adjust it that first time, it’ll stay that way, which is cool,” 50 says.
The artist was also vocal about the logo, which he developed and is emblazoned on both pieces, the color (blue is his favorite hue) and the waistband because, “It makes a statement. So we went through different designs until I was like, ‘This is what looks best.’”
If your guy’s position on the “nice” list is only high enough to earn him a single pair, 50 suggests he save them for very special nights. “Wear them when you know some action is going to take place. Hopefully you’ll put them on and take them off shortly thereafter!”
But with only 900 pieces made, he has a backup plan for everyday occasions: “A lot of times I stick to what my grandparents would say: ‘wear white underwear; [because] it will tell you when it’s time to be changed.”
