Russia actually has a pretty good sense of humor about that whole “ring fail” thing in the Sochi opening ceremony, referencing the now-famous incident during the closing ceremony.
The closing ceremony began with an elaborately choreographed routine involving a group of sparkily-attired dancers creating various shapes en masse on the floor of Fisht Olympic Stadium.
As they moved into their final shapes – the Olympic rings – it looked like one ring was remaining conspicuously closed. Given that it was being formed from people, rather than lights suspended 50 feet in the air, it’s unlikely this was a mechanical failure. Rather, it seemed like Russia was throwing in a last-minute wink and a nod to the biggest mistake of their opening ceremony.
At long last, definitive proof that Russia does have a sense of humor.
