Amid a busy autumn of engagements, from helping to host the Chinese president to focusing on the mental health of young people, Princess Kate retreated to her country home for the other major role in her life: Mom.

And it was there, in the peaceful, secluded surroundings of Anmer Hall, that she did what millions of parents around the world do every day and snapped some delightful shots of her 7-month-old daughter, Princess Charlotte.

It was not lost on insiders that the shots were taken at Anmer, on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate, 110 miles north of London.

“Kate’s life is structured so that when she is in London she is working. When she is at Anmer she is much more relaxed,” says Majesty magazine’s editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward in this week’s issue of PEOPLE.

And a friend adds, “That is their home. And they are trying to give both Charlotte and George a proper family upbringing.”

The littlest royals will be the center of attention in the upcoming holiday season that Kate and husband Prince William, both 33, are planning. They are expected to split their time between keeping company with Queen Elizabeth, 89, along with the extended royal clan, and the Middleton family – whom the couple hosted at Anmer last Christmas.
