Prince George is about to be welcomed to the jungle.
“I’ll have toy elephants and rhinos around the room,” the new dad says on the one-hour special, Prince William’s Passion: New Father, New Hope, airing Sept. 15. “We’ll cover it in, you know, lots of bushes and things like that. [We’ll] make him grow up as if he’s in the bush.”
With the decorating plans moving full speed ahead, Kate has been doing things on her own.
As she awaited the birth of Prince George, she concentrated on getting things ready for the family’s new home, apartment #1a at Kensington Palace – leaning on the advice of Anne Allen, of the London company Impey and Allen, says a source, adding that Allen is also a friend who is doing what she can to help.
Allen was seen shopping with the then-pregnant Kate when they browsed several antique stores, as well as Bernard Thorp in London’s Chelsea, where they apparently found fabrics.
“[Kate] was very clear on the ambience she wanted to create,” Greg Kinsella, creative director of Bernard Thorp, told PEOPLE, noting, too, that she had a “wide canvas of interest.”
The pair also stopped for an hour-long consultation at Bennison Fabrics, a company known for its hand-printed fabrics based on the designs of original 18th and 19th century English textiles. A staffer told PEOPLE that the princess “was there privately with her decorator choosing things for her new home”.
At the Nu-Line showroom in Ladbroke Grove in late June, Kate was once again chaperoned by Allen to look at bathrooms.
“She knew what she was looking for,” a staffer told PEOPLE. “[The two] browsed together, but Kate made a beeline for things she had obviously researched and was pleased to see that we stock.”
Allen declined to comment on helping with Kensington Palace decorations.
