Obviously, being an active participant can throw off one’s perspective.
And while admitting that “it sounds funny to say,” Pippa Middleton‘s matter-of-fact reaction to her sister Kate Middleton‘s marrying Prince William in the 2011 royal wedding was, simply, “We saw it as just a family wedding. And actually, I didn’t realize, perhaps, the scale of it until afterwards.”
For that matter, all the Middletons shared her understated response.
“We all took on the roles as any family would,” Pippa said in an exclusive TV interview that aired on Monday’s NBC Today show.
Seeing the TV cameras and, especially, she said, the throngs of people who had gathered to witness the wedding couple’s kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, Middleton, 30, recalled thinking, “Wow, this is pretty special.”
“You know,” she said, “I think the plan was not really for it to be a significant dress. Really just to sort of blend in with the [wedding dress] train.”
As for its current whereabouts, Middleton, who hasn’t worn it since, said: “It’s actually still in my wardrobe at home I think it’s the sort of thing that I’m sure I’ll bring out if someone wanted to see it or my children one day want to see it. Then I’ll show them.”
Middleton spoke to Today‘s Matt Lauer after her recent visit to the U.S. to participate in a charity bike ride. She praised America’s friendliness and scenery – both of which, she said, helped alleviate the sometimes painful demands of the race.
