Princess Kate brought plenty of sunshine – and an eclectic mix of celebrities! – to Centre Court at Wimbledon on Thursday at the women’s semi-final.
Attending the tennis championships solo for the first time, she took her perfectly centered spot in the prestigious Royal Box on Thursday afternoon, sandwiched between All England Lawn Tennis Club chairman Philip Brook and his wife.

The rest of the box was comprised of an only-at-Wimbledon mix of royals (including Sophie, Countess of Wessex), English society figures and celebrities, including Bee Gee Barry Gibb, Downton Abbey‘s Dame Maggie Smith and Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner – all of whom watched as Serena Williams beat Elena Vesnina, securing the No. 1-ranked American champion yet another spot in the Wimbledon final.
Before the game, which lasted just 48 minutes, Kate took a tour of the grounds, meeting some of this year’s ball boys and girls on the Players’ Lawn at the British tennis championships. In a similar fashion to her mother-in-law Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who attended Wimbledon recently, Kate passed on her best wishes to both Serena and Venus Williams while chatting with their mom, Oracene Price.
But it was while talking to British player Greg Rusedski that she revealed there might be a budding tennis champion in her own family.
The sporty royal mom commented that her husband was not the ideal partner for her, telling player Gordon Reid that because William is left-handed, she found it “so frustrating playing him.”
