Sheryl Crow may be a gorgeous, platinum-selling rock star, but she’s no diva. When Anna Liacopoulos, a blind 12-year-old girl, approached the singer at a recent Greenwich, Conn., fund-raiser for the China Care Foundation and said, “I want to sing ‘Soak Up the Sun’ with you!” Crow, who was headlining the event, agreed on the spot. She invited Anna and a girl with Down syndrome onstage for the song, joking, “You’d better not sing better than me!” The evening raised $485,000 for the organization, founded by a 16-year-old Connecticut high school student, which provides surgeries for disabled Chinese children and facilitates adoptions. “It’s a great cause,” said Crow, who attended without her beau, cycling phenom Lance Armstrong.
Jessica’s Next Role?
Is Jessica Simpson a mom in training? Though she and hubby Nick Lachey “definitely” plan to have a family, she says, “I’m still a kid. My husband, I don’t think he trusts me to be a mom yet.” For now, “We started off with the dog to see how I could do with the wee-wee pads and cleaning up the poo and such,” she added, referring to her Maltese toy poodle, Daisy (perhaps named for her role in the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard movie?). Stay tuned…
We know about the clothes the stars love to wear, but what about the designers – do they have favorite celebs? We caught up with Narciso Rodriguez (who has dressed the likes of Claire Danes, Salma Hayek, Diane Lane and Hilary Swank) during New York’s Fashion Week and asked him. “It’s really great fun to work with Sarah Jessica (Parker),” he tells us. “She’s so knowledgeable about cutting and fitting and fashion – she respects it. She’s got a great personal style.” Well, that’s not a surprise. Anyone else? “I have a secret crush on Rachel Weisz” (Runaway Jury, About a Boy), he says. “She’s such a great beauty. She’s the kind of woman that I love – so real and practical and normal. She delights in a pretty dress, as well as her jeans and her T-shirts. She’s so fun, so intelligent – Rachel’s got it all. It’s easy to fall in love with her.”
Note to style watchers: If you’re planning to catch Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas and the rest in the Fashion Rocks concert (airing on FOX on Sept. 26), keep an eye out for Dave Navarro. Carmen Electra’s guitar-wielding hubby sports a diamond-studded fedora that set him back $10,000. “I hope the diamonds are real,” he joked on the red carpet. Other looks of note: Rolling Stone guitarist Ron Wood’s sky-blue Uggs, and the booty-hugging minidress on Serena Williams, which was part of her own collection, Aneres (her name spelled backwards).
