It just wouldn’t be a party without Paris Hilton. Luckily, she has already made the trek to Miami, where the pre-MTV Video Music Awards celebrations are under way. Monday night our spies spotted her dining in the VIP room at Tantra with Randy Spelling (Tori’s little brother). The next night, she showed up at the weekly “Simple Tuesday” party at Mansion with pal Simon Rex (Scary Movie 3). The pink-clad Simple Life star, perched at a table with Rex underneath the DJ booth, went unnoticed by the crowd until she got up at around 12:30 a.m. and walked to a back room. When she returned, the crowd had grown, so Hilton pushed a couple of tables together to better separate her crew from the locals. She spent most of the night fiddling with her two-way pager, and both she and Rex indulged in cigarettes and lollipops at different times. Stay tuned for more from Miami …
When in L.A. …
Meanwhile, back in L.A., the hotspot du jour appears to be Guy’s on Friday nights (hosted by Michael Sutton, who will soon open The Lodge in West Hollywood with fellow restaurateur Adolfo Suaya). Sutton threw a birthday bash Friday night for Kimberly Stewart (Rod’s daughter), attended by the likes of Nicole Richie and beau DJ AM, Matthew McConaughey, Kate Bosworth and Orlando Bloom, and Kirsten Dunst. Earlier in the week, Matthew Perry celebrated his 35th birthday there, with friends including Mark Wahlberg, Jordana Brewster, Bijou Phillips, Leelee Sobieski, and Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson.

Spy Kids’ sexy mom Carla Gugino – currently starring on Broadway in Arthur Miller’s play After the Fall – tells us her family was surprised when she went into acting instead of something more bookish, like art history. “I was the kind of kid (where) my mom had to say, ‘Stop doing your homework now!’ ” Gugino tells us. “And who knows? I may end up going back to university at some point because I want to do it all.” Why not?
If It Ain’t Broke …
In the futuristic thriller Code 46, Oscar winner Tim Robbins portrays a government investigator living in a cloning-obsessed society. But when it comes to real-life genetic manipulation, he comes out decidedly against. “When you start messing with genetic structure and when you start messing with the creation of a human being, I get very uncomfortable,” says Robbins, who has two children with his longtime love, Susan Sarandon. “I mean, nature provides a pretty fun way to produce babies.”
