Kelly Clarkson was all smiles as she hopped inside a Blue Angels jet in Fort Worth, Texas, recently. “She walked up to the plane and was jumping up and down,” Airman Phillip Hill tells us. “She was really excited to get on there.”
The popster – whose trip with the Navy’s legendary flight team was part of the Texas Thunder 2006 Air Show – was soon singing a different tune after experiencing a series of sharp turns and upside-down tricks on her flight. “She said it was a great ride, but the pilot and copilot were going to need to clean up the plane,” says Hill. “When they go straight up and then level off the G’s, your stomach just goes right up to your throat.”
Afterward, the queasy American Idol star – who was “stumbling all over the place” – was still a good sport: She hung around the base and even signed autographs for fans.
Sandra & Jesse’s Cheering Squad
Sandra Bullock and husband Jesse James led the crowd in a standing ovation at the recent MusiCares Map Fund Benefit Concert held in Hollywood in honor of Metallica frontman James Hetfield. Bullock told us they’re “good friends” with the singer, who was applauded for his anti-drug advocacy. (Hetfield’s own struggle with alcoholism was chronicled in the 2004 documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.)
During the event, which featured an all-star rock jam and a guest list including Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Anthony Kiedis and Tom Waits, the newlyweds – who married last July – cuddled in each other’s arms, held hands and stayed glued together the entire night.
