Katharine: A Walking Mob Scene

Posted on

These days, Katharine McPhee can’t go anywhere without causing a stir. After attending a Broadway show recently, she “was mobbed by all these tourists,” says the American Idol star. “I try to look at it as, well, we’re all hot right now, but let’s remember that this is a dog-eat-dog business and it could all go as fast as it came. I just keep that in mind.”

It’s doubtful McPhee will be fading from the spotlight anytime soon: The singer releases two singles – her original song “My Destiny” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – on June 27; she’ll begin touring with the rest of the AI finalists on July 5; and she’s set to record her debut album. “Definitely it’ll be pop,” she told us about her upcoming CD at the Brooklyn, N.Y., launch of the new Princess Cruise luxury liner. “It’ll be on the radio, on the Top 40 charts hopefully.” Stay tuned.

Wedding Jitters

It’s not exactly the way a bride wants to lose weight for her wedding. “I had food poisoning all last night,” Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross told us at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation’s “A Time for Heroes” Celebrity Carnival in Los Angeles. And as she counts down the days to tying the knot with fiancé Tom Mahoney later this summer, Cross is having her share of butterflies. “Just the stress of getting things done – I’m not very detail-oriented,” she says. Luckily, she’s not going it alone. “I have friends that I’ve enlisted, so it’s kind of a group effort.”

Caught in the Act

Scarlett Johansson, throwing a wrap party for the cast and crew of The Nanny Diaries at a private home she rented in Bridgehampton, N.Y. “They were all dancing up a storm until 2 a.m.,” a source tells us. The actress catered the event from local eatery Alison and the partygoers feasted on lobster, chicken and potato salad.

David Arquette, playfully arguing over the bill with Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman) at Hollywood restaurant Hungry Cat. When the check arrived at the table, Reubens told his pal: “Put your card away! You got it last time!”
