Jesse Metcalfe's 'Near-Death' Experience

Posted on

Desperate Housewives star Jesse Metcalfe is thanking his lucky stars that his first visit to the Hamptons wasn’t his last. The actor had what he calls “a near-death experience” on a recent charter flight from New York’s LaGuardia Airport to the popular beach destination. “There was a lot of fog and we had to circle the runway three times,” he told us later that night at the Hamptons club Star Room, where he hosted a Vogue and Cointreau cocktail party. “We thought maybe the plane was going down. I’m very happy to be alive.”

The tiny plane carried Metcalfe, his actor pal Jonathan Sadowski (who’s currently filming the romantic comedy She’s the Man with Amanda Bynes) and a publicist. After being unable to land in East Hampton, the plane was diverted to West Hampton. “I was calm,” Metcalfe says. “I didn’t say my last rites. We were trying to make light of it, but we were all pretty scared. That was the first time I’ve been (diverted).”

Luckily, all ended well and Metcalfe – who grew up in Connecticut and attended New York University – spent the night on solid ground. “I was really excited to come out here,” he says. “I knew it would be a good party.”

Night in the City
Sarah Jessica Parker sure likes her Chinese food. The Sex and the City star was transfixed during a recent outing to New York City eatery Rickshaw Dumpling Bar, where she dined with husband Matthew Broderick. “She sidled up to the counter, put her elbows down and put her face in her hands and watched the cooks prepare her dinner,” a source tells us. What was on the menu? Chicken and Thai basil dumplings, peanut sate soup for her and pork dumplings for him.

On their way out Parker noticed a Coca-Cola sign in Chinese. She asked owner Kenny Lao what it meant. “He told her that the translation for the four characters on the sign means ‘thirsty mouth, happy mouth,'” says the source. “She giggled and thought it was great.”

Caught in the Act
Lindsay Lohan, dining with friends at West Hollywood restaurant Koi. After dinner, the actress headed with a good-looking male companion to the Tropicana Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, watching a performance of the play Medal of Honor Rag with girlfriend Kim Porter at the Egyptian Arena Theatre in Hollywood. The hip-hop mogul was spotted dozing off during the performance, which stars rapper Heavy D as a Vietnam veteran.

Ryan Seacrest, bowling at the new South Beach outpost of popular L.A. bowling alley-restaurant Lucky Strike. The American Idol host has some skills: He rolled a few strikes in his first game.
