George Hits the Campaign Trail

Posted on

George Clooney spent last weekend on the campaign trail, making stops in New York and Washington, D.C., to support his dad, Nick Clooney, the Democratic candidate in Kentucky’s 4th District. The Ocean’s Eleven star tells us he is looking forward to being the son of a congressman. “Yeah, I want a lot of favors. Would you do that for me?” he asked his candidate father. “George, you’re getting nothing from me,” Nick Clooney replied. “I knew it,” joked the actor, who was sporting a beard and about 25 extra pounds for his role as real-life CIA agent Robert Baer in the upcoming Syriana, filming in Baltimore. “It’s just like growing up with him.”

It’s Just a Movie
Although a British player wins the fabled Wimbeldon tennis tournament in the eponymous movie, star Paul Bettany isn’t holding out any hope for life imitating art. “This is a rags to riches story,” Bettany told us at the movie’s recent London premiere, which he attended with wife Jennifer Connelly. “The likelihood of a English person doing well at Wimbledon is kind of low at the moment.” As for fellow star Kirsten Dunst, who braved the Leicester Square chill in a Chanel gown, she wanted it known that in her tennis-playing scenes, “I did my own grunts. I did not copy anybody.” Now you know.

Free Association
We asked actor-comedian John Leguizamo for his quick takes on a few hot topics.
Bill Clinton’s heart surgery: “No more Super Sizing, Billy Boy.”
Beyonce’s clothing line, House of Dereon: “Derriere-on! I’m all for it!”
My favorite TV show is: “I have so many shows I love, but I guess it’s got to be 106 & Park on BET.”
My first year of marriage: “It’s good, we’ve known each other for a long time. It gets more beautiful because we know each other and we’re comfortable with each other. Love is beautiful – we have two kids (ages 3 and 4). We did things a little backwards, but we knew we really wanted to be with each other.”
The Apprentice: “I don’t watch it. But you’re fired.”
