JESSICA SIMPSON: APPRENTICE?
One reality show apparently isn’t enough for Jessica Simpson. The star of MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica will appear on an upcoming episode of NBC’s The Apprentice, according to its star and producer, Donald Trump. “The kids organize a rock concert (filmed in October at the Trump Casino in Atlantic City) and she is the artist,” he tells us exclusively. And, just when you thought the singer, reality-TV star and soon-to-be movie actress had done it all … now she’s really gone commercial. The final ad to air seconds before the coin toss and kickoff at Sunday’s Super Bowl will feature Simpson, who will hawk Pizza Hut alongside four Muppets: Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Animal. Which Muppet was Simpson’s favorite? Miss Piggy, Pizza Hut spokeswoman Julie Hildebrand tells us. “She liked her attitude.”
DAYTIME TO BIG TIME
Win a Date with Tad Hamilton star Josh Duhamel may have gone Hollywood, but he hasn’t forgotten his old friends at All My Children. The former AMC star, who won a Daytime Emmy for best supporting actor in 2002 for his role as sexy young player Leo du Pres, stopped by the soap set after appearing on The View recently. (The two shows are shot in the same New York City studio.) After visiting his pals, he treated them to a special screening of his new movie at MGM.
ELVIS IS IN THE BUILDING
Denis Leary may be a comedian, but he’s serious about at least one thing: Elvis Costello. “I’m a huge fan,” he told PEOPLE.com at the A&E Television Network’s 20th anniversary party at New York’s Mandarin Oriental Hotel, where Costello performed. “I’m just here to see Elvis. … I go to see him whenever I can. I think I’ve seen him about 25 times now.” Before Costello took the stage, his wife, fellow crooner Diana Krall, performed jazz standards such as “Gee Baby Ain’t I Good to You.” Costello went on at 10 p.m., wearing his trademark black-rimmed glasses, along with a black suit and a black tie with pink polka dots. Leary sang along softly as Costello performed classics like “This House Is Empty Now,” “Alison” and “Peace in Our Time,” as well as his Oscar-nominated song, Cold Mountain’s “Scarlet Tide.” Other guests at the party included Liza Minnelli (who also performed), Crossing Jordan’s Jerry O’Connell, Al Roker, Mariel Hemingway and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
SHARON’S SUPER SUNDAY
What does Sharon Osbourne love most about the Super Bowl? “I can go into any shop on that Sunday and they’re empty!” she says on an episode of her syndicated talk show, airing Friday. Okay, so Mrs. O admits she has never actually seen the big game before, but this year, she has her own unique reason to watch: “I like the fact that the Super Bowl trophy is made by Tiffany,” she says. “We all like a bit of ‘bling-bling,’ so anything to do with Tiffany, I’m there.”
