Stephen Colbert Doesn’t Feel Sorry for Sean Spicer After Kimmel Interview

Posted on

Stephen Colbert‘s sympathy for Sean Spicer, the now-former White House Press Secretary, is running on empty.

The Late Show personality came on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night to talk about his Emmys hosting gig this Sunday, but the conversation veered toward Kimmel’s recent interview with Spicer. “A certain part of me felt sorry for him,” Kimmel said.

“Really?!” Colbert responded. “Because he wasn’t apologizing. He wants to be forgiven, but he won’t regret anything he did. You’ve got to regret something you did to be forgiven.” Colbert did, however, love Kimmel’s interview. “I loved you with Sean Spicer last night. That was a great interview,” he said.

It hasn’t even been a full year since President Donald Trump took office, but Colbert has become a staunch critic of the administration, including Spicer. The late-night host lampooned the press secretary for hiding from press among the bushes and he got so sick of hearing Spicer claim Trump to be doing a “phenomenal” job that he created a Muppets-themed remix.

When Spicer finally resigned unceremoniously, Colbert tweeted, “Words fail me. And they failed him, too.”
