White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has responded to claims that she dislikes President Trump in a new statement, calling Morning Joe cohosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough’s comments on the subject “absurd.”
“My beliefs, commitments and loyalties are plain to see,” she said in the statement, shared through her Twitter account on Tuesday.
In a Monday New York Times story, Brzezinski and Scarborough claimed that during her tenure as Trump’s campaign manager, Conway repeatedly complained about the then-candidate.
“She would get off the air, the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say, ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much,” Brzezinski said.
Scarborough contended that Conway said she’d only taken the role for money, and made comments during appearances like, ” ‘But first I have to take a shower, because it feels so dirty to be saying what I’m saying.’ ”

In her Tuesday statement, Conway said, “The hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe have been virulent critics of the President and those close to him. Ignoring insults and insinuations is a valuable skill. But when sentiments are attributed to me that are not true, it is necessary to respond.”
“The notion that I am serving for ‘the money’ or ‘the paycheck’ is absurd,” she continued. “As a campaign manager, I made a fraction of what other consultants have made on unsuccessful presidential campaigns. Then I walked away from dozens of opportunities for millions of dollars and instead walked into the White House. I would do it again.”
She concluded by calling it a “privilege” to work for the president, and noted “I know him, I respect him, I believe in him, and I am confident in his capacity to be a transformative and successful president.”
Conway and the Morning Joe cohosts have a contentious history.

In February, Brzezinski blacklisted Conway from the show, saying, “We know for a fact she tries to book herself on this show. I won’t do it, ‘cuz I don’t believe in fake news or information that is not true. And that is — every time I’ve ever seen her on television, something’s askew, off or incorrect.”
