New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is facing backlash on social media after photos emerged of him and his family catching some sun on a local beach that he had closed to most visitors amid a state government shutdown.

Aerial shots of the Republican governor enjoying the empty Island Beach State Park on Sunday afternoon also sparked a flood of memes depicting Christie on a beach chair atop various backgrounds, including classic movie scenes, a basketball court and President Donald Trump’s Oval Office.

A tweet by California Rep. Jack Kimble stuck the New Jersey governor in a galaxy far, far away:

Christie defended the controversial trip in an interview with Good Day Philadelphia.

“I’m sorry, they’re not the governor,” he said of the people who did not have access to the beach.
