Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton is taking a stand for President Donald Trump‘s children after it was reported that some people believe his sons and daughters should not be offered Secret Service protection.
“Some say Trump kids shouldn’t have Secret Service. Do you not care about nat sec crisis that would arise if 1 of them was kidnapped/hurt?”, journalist Yashar Ali tweeted Monday morning.
Clinton responded to his tweet within hours, writing on Twitter: “It makes me very sad to read this & to know that anyone would ever say this. The President’s family’s protection should not be politicized.”
The president has faced criticism over the high cost to taxpayers of protecting members of his immediate family — including his adult children, Donald Jr., Eric, Ivanka and Tiffany, and his 11-year-old son, Barron, who lives in Trump Tower in New York City with his mother, First Lady Melania Trump.
The Washington Post recently reported that the Secret Service requested an additional $60 million in funding for the next year — $26.8 million of which would go toward guarding the president’s family and Trump Tower home.

This isn’t the first time Clinton has stood up for President Trump’s children. Just days after Trump’s inauguration in January, Bill and Hillary Clinton’s 37-year-old daughter came to young Barron’s defense after people made jokes about him on Twitter.

“Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid,” Clinton tweeted at the time.
She also suggested in the same tweet, however, that some of the president’s policies could be harmful to children.
She added, “Standing up for every kid also means opposing @POTUS policies that hurt kids.”
